Alejandro Landa: From Racquetball Champion to Padel Promoter in Ciudad Juárez

The border between Ciudad Juárez and El Paso has been the birthplace of great sporting talent, and one of the most notable is undoubtedly Alex Landa, a former professional racquetball player, world champion, and now a passionate promoter of padel in the region. His story is one of discipline, perseverance, and love for the sport, qualities that today position him as one of the most influential figures in inspiring new generations.

Alex began his journey in the sport at age 12 in his native Chihuahua, Chihuahua, where he took his first swings at the Club Deportivo Lince. Since then, his talent and determination have marked an upward trajectory that led him to settle in El Paso, Texas, in 2003. There, he continued his training by participating in local and state tournaments in Texas, gaining the experience necessary to leap to the professional racquetball tour in 2010.

Thanks to his performance, Landa earned an athletic scholarship to Colorado State University, where he studied business and proudly represented his institution in the sport he loved. His professional career was brilliant: he was Mexican national champion on multiple occasions in both singles and doubles, and in 2020 he decided to represent the United States, with which he achieved one of his greatest triumphs: the 2021 World Championship in Guatemala, consolidating himself as #1 on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) and writing his name in the history of the sport.

After a 23-year professional career, Alex decided to retire in 2023, satisfied with everything he had achieved. Today, he maintains the same energy and dedication that took him to the top, but with a different focus: promoting the growth of padel on the border. He maintains a close relationship with the brands that accompanied him throughout his career, especially HEAD, his long-time sponsor, and continues to promote the sport from a new perspective, now as an organizer and ambassador for local tournaments.

In addition to his passion for sports, Alex is the proud father of a six-year-old daughter, whom he considers his greatest source of inspiration. His biggest dream is to train her and watch her grow up in the world of sports with the same values that shaped his life.

This November, Landa invites the entire community to take part in the HEAD Padel Open, a tournament that will be held from November 24 to 30 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, with categories Suma 3, 3a, 4a, 5a, 6a, Mixed Suma 7, Women’s 3a, and Women’s Suma 9. This event promises to bring together players, families, and sports enthusiasts for a week full of excitement, talent, and healthy competition.
