The frontier of entrepreneurship
In recent years, Ciudad Juárez has emerged as a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, challenging the common perception that its economy is solely based on the maquiladora industry. Although maquiladoras represent a significant portion of the city's income, the business landscape is much more diverse and dynamic than previously thought. There are approximately 43,138 economic units registered with the INEGI (National Institute of Statistics and Geography), of which only 320 are maquiladoras. This data demonstrates the predominance of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.

In 2018, Red Juárez Emprende emerged, a network aimed at fostering entrepreneurship in the region. At the time, the world was abuzz with conversations about innovation and the legendary Silicon Valley. Juárez was believed to have the potential to become a center of innovation, and thanks to collaboration between the municipal, state, federal, public, private, and social sectors, this ambitious project was launched.
Since then, Red Juárez Emprende has grown and evolved, adding incubators and organizations, and currently has 43 organizations in this city alone. However, its vision goes beyond the borders of Juárez, aspiring to expand to other regions, such as El Paso, thus seeking to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem throughout the area.
One of the main goals of this network is to create a strong and resilient business environment that doesn’t depend exclusively on a single sector. This involves not only supporting the emergence of new businesses but also strengthening and diversifying existing ones, so that when the maquilas eventually close, the city won’t be left behind.
To achieve this goal, the Juárez Emprende Network works in collaboration with institutions and organizations, each focused on providing support and resources tailored to the different stages of business growth. From idea incubation to business expansion and consolidation, the network seeks to provide the necessary support so that entrepreneurs can reach their full potential and, as a result, the city lays the foundation for a more diversified, resilient, and innovative economic future.
